Activities & Program

Promotes Inclusive Education

CEFED promotes inclusive education by establishing learning environments that embrace and cater to the diverse needs of children and youth with disabilities and their non-disabled counterparts (especially girls with disabilities), and learning differences. CEFED’s key aspects include ensuring accessibility, implementing Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, providing individualized support and accommodations, adaptations, fostering collaborative teaching and learning, cultivating a positive school culture, offering inclusive professional development for educators, engaging families and communities, and advocating for supportive policies and practices, to ensure an educational system where every student feels valued, supported, and empowered to succeed inspite of their differences

So far CEFED has;

  • Vocational craftworks for children with disabilities
  • Residential and day schooling for children with and without disabilities (Full and Partial Inclusion)
  • Constructed of an inclusive enabling and accessible multipurpose center for CEFED. This includes; accessible classrooms, resource center, 10 accessible washroom and bathrooms to enhance the living and learning condition of children with disabilities in Cameroon 
  • Training of teachers in special needs education

 

Lobbing and Advocacy for the rights of persons with disabilities.

CEFED’s multifaceted advocacy aims at securing equal opportunities, inclusion, and full participation in society amongst persons with disabilities. This advocacy spans various principles and actions geared towards eliminating discrimination and barriers faced by individuals with disabilities. Key focus areas include advocating for non-discrimination, accessibility, inclusive education, healthcare access, employment opportunities, independent living, community inclusion, participation in decision-making, freedom from violence, and cultural/recreational participation. By championing these rights Center For Empowerment of Females With Disabilities, advocates strive to create a more equitable and inclusive society for persons with disabilities especially amongst children and females with disabilities.

So far CEFED has achieved the following with its advocacy;

  • Advocacy media campaigns which lead to the  ratification of the UN convention of the rights of disabilities
  • Advocated for the rights to education of children with disabilities that lead the establishment of inclusive schools
  • Advocated for the rights of children with disabilities to ensure “child protection”
  • Capacity building on disability right and accessibility amongst stakeholders, leading to enhanced disability and inclusion.
  • Capacity building of persons with disabilities on their rights and self advocacy skills, which has lead to self advocacy amongst persons with disabilities.

Poverty Reduction

CEFED works hard to ensure that every person with a disability has the same opportunities as everyone else, enabling them to live a life free from poverty.

We are committed to:

  • Securing foodbank
  • Providing shelter or housing
  • Providing basic needs and social services
  • Providing assistive devices
  • enhancing access to sustainable livelihoods, entrepreneurial opportunities, and productive resources
  • Developing social protection systems progressively
  • Addressing the disproportionate impact of poverty
  • Working with interested sponsors and recipients
 
 

CEFED aims to contribute towards increasing the economic productivity of children, people with disabilities, and their families to improve their livelihoods through sustainable income-generating activities.

  • Create greater opportunities for families to secure decent employment and income;
  • Improve production and profits through stronger market linkages
  • Promote livestock production to increase assets
  • Develop skills and capacity
  • Partner with government service provide

Women Empowerment

Activities:

  • Accessible digital literacy capacity building for youth and women with disabilities and their non disabled counterpart: This has fostered greater inclusion of individuals with disabilities in online spaces, social networks, educational platforms, and employment opportunities, thereby reduced barriers to participation and engagement amongst youth and women with disabilities and their non-disabled counterparts.
  • Vocational Training: Beads making, Bakery and Arts and craft. 

 

Family Retreats for Families Affected with Disabilities and Evangelism

CEFED also supports individuals impacted by disability and their families through family retreats. It is a time of respite and spritual encouragement.

In partnership with local churches and other organizations, we plan family retreats intending to encourage families and demonstrate gospel messages that will help them feel rejuvenated and relax.

Family retreats may be a combination of spiritual encouragement and recreational activities, such as:

  • Therapeutic workshops
  • Peer-to-peer discussion groups
  • Expressive arts and music activities
  • Team-building activities
  • Life training and emotional support
  • Talent Night Show
  • Prayers and Counseling
  • Lessons to explore the theme of the retreat

Health Education and Referral

CEFED continues to improve the health of people with disabilities and their families by expanding and providing basic health education and referral.

Meeting the healthcare needs of people with disabilities includes:

  • Helping them get to their therapy or specialty care appointments
  •  
  • Providing access to proper nutrition
  •  
  • Helping them participate in physical, social, or other community activities
  •  
  • Ensure Quality Health through Referral
  •  
  • Partnering with healthcare providers
  •  
  • Counseling

Employment

CEFED provides employment programs for persons with disabilities and their families who seek employment, training assistance, and civic engagement.

We partner with community-based non-profit organizations and government agencies to provide participants with training opportunities to update their skills, achieve personal employment goals, and contribute to their communities.

We provide:

  • Training on job skills
  • One-on-one coaching on the job search
  • Carry out the remote job fair
  • Working with employers to ensure equal opportunity and inclusive workplaces
